Professional Yacht Maintenance Services
Dock-Side Services for Monterey Harbor in Monterey, California
Regular washdowns keep your boat's finish clean and looking bright by removing salt, dirt, and dust that settle on your boat over time. These contaminants not only make your boat look dirty, but they can accelerate the degradation of your wax coating and dull the condition of your bare paint and gelcoat surfaces. A good washdown not only cleanses your boat of these contaminants, but our experience has suggested a tangible benefit of maintaining the wax coating for longer periods of time than without regular washes. Our Basic Washdown Service includes thorough wash and hand drying, glass and plastic cleaning by hand, and basic spot and stain removal. We also open all unlocked lazarettes and compartments to wipe clean all drainage gutters.
Goyer Marine's Detailing Service is an more advanced extension of our washdown service, with preservation in mind. This service is best done every 1-3 months and combined with a weekly or bi-weekly washdown schedule. In addition to thorough cleaning including detailed spot, scuff, and stain removal, we also polish and protect all of the metals and plastic parts on board. Dry exterior spaces like carpeted cockpits and flybridges are vacuumed, glass windows are lightly polished as needed to remove light spotting, and vinyl cushions are treated to protect them from UV light. Our "White-Glove" level detailing offers additional features as well. Additionally, wax applications can be added periodically to maintain the boat's finish. We work with each individual client to tailor a regimen to their specific desires and expectations.

Polishing and Waxing
Waxing is very important for fiberglass boats, and goes much further than just making the boat look shiny. Gelcoat, the shiny coating that covers all fiberglass boats, is highly susceptible to damage from the harsh marine environment. Gelcoat is very different than the clearcoat on a car, and requires more care to keep its shine. Bird droppings can easily damage the surface when left to remain for extended periods. Salt spray left on the surface can crystalize and etch the gelcoat. Powerful UV rays from sun exposure will cause the gelcoat to deteriorate, dulling the once-shiny finish. The good news is, gelcoat has properties that allow it to be polished a buffed back to a shine, even after considerable deterioration of the surface. With a quality 1-, 2-, or 3-part polishing and waxing (depending on the severity of the deterioration), the surface of the gelcoat can be restored to an attractive, shiny appearance. After that, reapplications of paste wax, every 4-6 months on average, will keep you boat's shine for a fraction of the cost of a multi-step polishing job.
